Felpham Dippers raise £1,405 for Breast Cancer Now with pink-themed seaside fundraiser

A community sea swimming group has raised £1,405 for Breast Cancer Now after organising a special Pink Dip event at Felpham Beach.

The Felpham Dippers, a group of local men and women who meet at Felpham Beach for sea swims throughout the year, hosted the fundraising event on Saturday, October 24, bringing the community together to raise money and awareness for the breast cancer charity.

The idea came about after Jenny Freeman, from Breast Cancer Now, approached the group over the summer to ask whether they would be willing to organise a fundraiser.

Having previously produced three charity calendars, the Dippers were keen to find another way to support others, and the idea of a Pink Dip soon took shape.

People were invited to come along dressed in pink and take part in a sea dip, although getting into the water was entirely optional. The morning also featured a homemade cake sale and raffle, with donations welcomed from visitors. A JustGiving page was also set up to support the fundraising.

Janet Stockley-Pollard, from the Felpham Dippers said: “We were worried about the weather, as it was the weekend of storms. George at The Boathouse, Felpham, kindly let us use his cafe to host so that the event could go ahead.

“Despite the weather, people came in their droves to support it, and a few brave people still went in the sea.

It was such a successful morning, raising £1,405, including Gift Aid, for Breast Cancer Now.

"Everyone who came said they had a lovely time, with great Community Spirit, so we are hoping to make The Pink Dip an Annual fundraiser.”
