Pictures posted on the council’s social media show part of the fence floating in the river and a large section of the fencing missing.
Pevensey Parish Council described the incident as ‘disappointing vandalism’.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We’re sad to report that part of the council fence at Pevensey Recreation Ground has been deliberately pulled out and thrown into the river.
“This kind of damage affects everyone who uses and enjoys the space. The incident has been reported to the appropriate agencies. This behaviour is extremely disappointing.
“If anyone has any information that may help identify those responsible, please come forward.”
The Recreation Ground, just off of Wallsend Road, is one of three parks controlled by Pevensey Parish Council and offers a variety of outdoor facilities for children and families to enjoy.
