He has been a supporter of the charity’s work for some time and has seen how it supports local people with dementia, their families, carers and friends.

The EDAA signposts people to appropriate dementia services within Eastbourne and the surrounding area. It also develops new community initiatives to extend its reach and raise awareness of the issue locally.

Mr Lloyd, said: “I am looking forward to working alongside the experienced and dedicated team at the EDAA.

Dementia is an issue which affects so many people and its first impact can be utterly devastating, not least because people often don’t know what to do or where to turn to. The EDAA has an important role to play locally to guide people with dementia and their families in the right direction.”

Ian Cottrell, secretary of the EDAA, said he was ‘delighted’ and added: “Stephen is joining us at an exciting time as the EDAA is looking to secure funding to offer more online services to people living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers.

“This is especially important considering the future impact of Covid-19 on our community, as there are already too many people in our area who are socially and digitally excluded.”
