Widely regarded as the most beautiful castle in Sussex, with its moat and fairy-tale appearance, the castle was built in the 14th century.
The imposing gatehouse holds an original 14th-century wooden portcullis, a highly rare survival in Britain.
The National Trust is offering free opening on Saturday September 12 and Sunday 13 as part of its 100 year heritage celebrations.
There is a packed programme of events and activities across the weekend including medieval re-enactments from four unique groups; medieval armour displays; meet the makers; storytelling; castle tours; crafts; archaeology finds; talks; tables from local businesses and costumed moat tours. The castle will be open 10am - 5pm on both days. Bodiam 100: Community Celebration weekend and ‘The Keys to the Castle’ have been made possible thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
