Fundraising appeal launched to make West Sussex village school 'look beautiful again'

Paul Wicks created the appeal to raise £3,150 for work at East Preston Junior School after carrying out some gardening work there for free.

He said: “Our schools are so important, they are shaping our future and they are the hub of our community. Together, let's make the junior school look beautiful again.”

Work was carried out at the school in July as one of the Paul Wicks Garden Services free jobs that are done each month for the community.

Paul said: “It was red hot but there was a wonderful breeze blowing where I was working and I have to tell you that the hospitality was top notch. I'll be back to finish off a few things and then on a regular basis to maintain it.”

Pete Amos, whose company Amos Property Services was responsible for the Salt Café 'glow up' earlier this year, will be replacing all the wood around the raised beds with new sleepers.

Paul said: “When I finished the garden tidy at East Preston Junior School, I realised just how bad it was and now just how bad the beds look since I have exposed them.

“I will be tidying up the rest of the gardens, covering the beds under the windows with a good-quality weed suppression membrane and then covering them with 20mm shingle to keep everything looking presentable and reduce the ongoing garden maintenance.

“I'll also be adding beautiful plants and beautiful pots to add some colour. The JustGiving page allows anyone who wants to contribute a safe way to donate.”

Paul said: “Special thanks so far to all the businesses who have already agreed to contribute. I would also love parents, ex-students and villagers to contribute if they are able.”
