Giant 3D 'Worthing' sign to be 'officially unveiled' at Montague Gardens opening event
A 3D ‘Worthing’ sign will be officially unveiled during an opening event for the new Montague Gardens.
Work to transform Montague Place into a ‘vibrant green space’ – known as Montague Gardens – began in summer 2025.
Its goal is to breathe new life into the town centre, attracting more visitors by providing a better link to the seafront and boosting local business.
The plans included a green living wall, up to 30 new trees, drought-resistant planting, and a ‘bespoke’ play area.

In an update shared this week, Worthing Borough Council (WBC) said: “More trees, shrubs and flowers have been planted at Montague Gardens, as we continue work to finish the new town centre open space.
“The first plants that will form the green living wall are also in the ground, and will grow to cover the metal structure behind the stage area over time.”
A 3D ‘Worthing’ place sign was also installed on the stage area in July before being quickly concealed ahead of the ‘official unveiling’.
WBC explained: “The vibrant design for the place sign was created by artist Molly Hawkins and was inspired by local residents who attended one of her collage-making workshops at three Worthing venues.”
Residents will be able to witness the area’s transformation during a family-friendly opening event on Saturday, September 5, from midday to 3pm.
WBC promised performances by Spring into Soul Choir, Drumheads Samba Band, AudioActive and The Salvation Army.
