A Hastings author has stayed very close to home for the setting of her upcoming novel, which will be published next month.

Sian Turner’s latest book, Patches through Time, tells the story of Jake Patch, an antique dealer living in Hastings, who embarks on an adventure through time after finding a mysterious object.

However, when he is stranded in a dangerous past, it falls to his teenage daughter Cass to launch a rescue mission.

Sian, who has been writing novels for about twelve years, has a keen interest in local social history and decided to centre her eighth story around Hastings, where she has lived for most of her life.

She said: “I’ve learned a lot about the history of Hastings while working on this novel, and I loved writing about things that really happened mixed in with my own ideas about what it would feel like to visit a past beyond your living memory.”

In addition to this, she said that some of the plot was also inspired by a BBC One programme, as well as the film series Back to the Future.

She added: “Patches through Time was initially inspired by watching Bargain Hunt and wondering which objects made today might become valuable antiques in the future.

“I love the fact that retro items from the 60s and 70s are now becoming highly sought-after.

“It seemed logical to wonder about travelling back in time and picking up an object for next-to-nothing that could be sold in the present for a hefty profit, so I sat down and started writing.

"Once I’d created Jake and his daughter Cass, much of the storyline flowed naturally from their backstories.’

Patches through Time, is available to pre-order from Amazon and launches in both eBook and paperback formats on January 12.
