Hastings event postponed due to expected heavy rain and high winds

The organisers of the popular annual Bottle Alley Art Market have decided not to go ahead with the event on Saturday August 29 due to expected bad weather.

The event was to have showcased the work of more than 60 artists and creators along the length of the Bottle Alley lower promenade, which links Hastings with St Leonards.

Instead, the event will now be held on Sunday September 20.

A spokesperson for the organisers said: “After much deliberation and weather watching across several websites the team have taken the reluctant decision to postpone this year's Bottle Alley Art Market until Sunday September 20. General consensus is that this Saturday is going to be the wettest and windiest day over the bank holiday weekend with wind gusts of up to 40mph predicted on some sites and rain at 100% -84% from 10am -1pm and things are still shifting. “The alley is of course partially undercover but the south side is open to wind and blown rain/ seaspray, there are also leaks from the ceiling: Any potential risk to artists work and visitor experience of the day has to be considered. “It's not been an easy decision to make, and the first time we've had to do so, but the team feel it is for the best in terms of allowing time to promote a new date and also giving the artists, plenty of notice. “We've had a few spaces become available because of the new date so will be opening applications again in the next couple of days, announcing here and on the Bottle Alley Art Market Instagram account: So spread the word and put the 20th September in your diaries for 500 metres of inspiration and a celebration of Hastings creatives from St.Leonards to Hastings and back again.”
