Hastings-based punk/skiffle bar-room combo Fear of Last Orders have collaborated with esteemed local artist and rock’n’roller, Vince Ray, to put together a one-off Halloween record release and a special show at the Jenny Lind to mark Halloween this year.
Fear of Last Orders have reworked two classics - Boris Pickett’s Monster Mash and, with a big nod to Warren Zevon, Werewolves of Hastings - as their side of the limited edition EP. Vince Ray has contributed two original tunes with Hastings Town on Halloween and Monster Hop A-Bop-A-Lula.
Werewolves of Hastings is rooted deep in the dark alleys and twittens of the Old Town with lyrics that include:
‘Stepping out tonight down the Old Town
In the full moonlight long after sundown
There’s a barroom fight and a howling sound
Welcome to the Hastings Old Town werewolf showdown.’
The record will be launched with a celebration party at the Jenny Lind in High Street at 6pm on Saturday the 31st October where fancy dress is encouraged but optional. Both Vince Ray and Fear of Last Orders will be playing full sets and there will be a DJ playing all the spooky classics along with games, raffles and other goings on, as well as a great selection of beers.
Vince Ray said: “Having found that Fear of Last Orders and myself had both written their own Hastings Halloween themed song, unbeknown to each other, it seemed like a good idea to join forces on this project. My contribution is based on the idea of two innocents visiting Hasting at Halloween and finding the town’s inhabitants had been taken over by the spirits of werewolves, vampires and monsters. They find themselves trapped in a black and white B Movie world that is so much fun, they have no intention of leaving!”
Geoff Martin from Fear of Last Orders said: “The musical community in Hasting’s is a tight-knit affair so Halloween was a perfect opportunity for us to link up with our old mucker Vince Ray on this bit of business . We can guarantee that the Halloween show at the Jenny Lind will be full of high energy singalongs and general Hastings mayhem. See you at the bar.”
The “Werewolves of Hastings” Halloween Special will be at the Jenny Lind - 69 High Street, Hastings - on Saturday the 31st October, 6pm to 10pm. Free
admission.
Copies of the limited edition EP will be available from Pressing Matter Records on Queens Road and Courthouse Records in the Old Town a week before the show.
