Henfield care home makes cupcakes for residents isolating in the community

National Cupcake Day has been a real treat for all at a Henfield care home as sweet-toothed staff and residents got out their aprons and mixing bowls to raise £225 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The team at Red Oaks also delivered homemade cupcakes made by the home’s chef – via the Henfield helpline at the Haven – to residents isolating in the community.

Linda Ryan, general manager at Red Oaks, said: “There are a lot of enthusiastic bakers at this home who really demonstrated their talent and made some fantastic treats for everyone to enjoy.

“We’re proud to make our contribution of £225 which will go to a very good cause.

“We have had lots of thanks from the local community who received the cupcakes saying what a lovely surprise it was to receive a homemade cake.”

The day, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, encourages groups and individuals to host a cupcake day to raise money for the charity, where funds will be put towards finding the cure for dementia.

Dedicated Cupcakers have raised £2.7million since 2016, and this year the charity hopes to raise even more to continue to support those affected by dementia.

Baking is a much-loved hobby for many people who live and work at Red Oaks.

The team also used the occasion to host a competition judged by the home’s pastry chef.

Relatives and friends joined in by baking at home and entered into the care home’s virtual cupcake competition by sending in pictures of the cupcakes that they made.
