The local bonfire season is well underway and Saturday saw the spotlight switch to Staplecross when Ewhurst and Staplecross held its celebrations.

Staplecross is one of the more atmospheric local celebrations with a torch-lit procession through the dark country lanes.

Bonfire Societies from Hastings, Battle, Lewes, Rye and Robertsbridge took part in the event, which was led by Staplecross in their distinctive clown costumes.

The event, which enjoyed a fine, dry night, came to a close with a big bonfire and spectacular fireworks display on the recreation ground.

The bonfire society held a charity collection to raise money for good local causes.
