The annual Christmas Tree Festival at St Clements church got off to a great start at the weekend raising £430 for the Two Towers Trust charity on the first day alone.

This year there are a record 31 themed trees which have been decorated by parishioners and local groups including Hannah’s Cat Morris side.

People were able to admire the trees and vote for their favourite as well as browse craft stalls and enjoy refreshments including mulled wine. The event raised £700 over the opening weekend.

The money will be used for the upkeep, repair and maintenance of the two historic medieval churches in Hastings Old Town.

If people missed the tree on the opening weekend they will be on display again this weekend (Saturday December 6 and Sunday 7), from 11am – 3pm on Saturday and 11.30am – 3pm Sunday, after the usual church service. There is also a ‘Treelight’ event, on the evening of Friday December 5 from 6pm until 7.30pm, when the historic church will be lit by Christmas tree light alone.
