Fine, dry weather helped as bonfire societies from across the county descended on the town to take part in a huge torch-lit procession along the seafront and through the streets of the Old Town.
They were joined by a number of local drumming groups who added to the atmosphere.
The procession stopped for a special ceremony and speeches at the America Ground in the town centre, with loud bangs going off as it passed the fire-site on the seafront enroute to the Old Town.
The event came to a spectacular conclusion with the usual huge bonfire on the beach and a spectacular fireworks display.
Money collected on the night raises vital funds for local charities and good causes.
Earlier in the day there was a children’s bonfire procession along the seafront to Pelham Place.
Volunteers were out early in the rain on Sunday morning for a big clear up of the bonfire site.
It was the 31st year of Hastings Bonfire since its revival in 1995.
The local bonfire season continues over the coming week with events at Staplecross, Battle, Rye and Robertsbridge.
