What is arguably the biggest May Day celebration in the UK saw the Jack in the Green released from the Fishermen’s Museum on bank holiday Monday morning to lead a colourful procession of dancers and musicians through the packed streets of Hastings Old Town.
The procession made its way to the West Hill where, after and afternoon of dancing and celebration, Jack was slain to release the spirit of summer and his leaves thrown out to the waiting crowds.
It was the culmination of a weekend of celebration which included Morris dancing displays, drumming groups and a parade of giants.
