Heavy rain failed to stop play when The Albion pub on the seafront hosted the 1066 Conker Championship on Sunday October 18.

Conkers is a traditional autumn game where two players take turns striking each other's horse-chestnut threaded on a string until one breaks.

The Albion pub, which is at the centre of many local traditions, decided to revive the game, which had largely died out and this was the second year of the championship.

There was a great atmosphere and lots of laughs despite the bad weather.

The first recorded game of conkers using horse chestnuts was on the Isle of Wight in 1848.

The challenge at the Albion is held on the nearest Sunday to Hastings Day.
