The lights in Bottle Alley were also turned white over the weekend in recognition of the anniversary.
The service in the park was attended by local veterans. Standards were presented and poppy wreaths laid at the war memorial.
VJ Day, or Victory over Japan Day, is marked each year on, or around 15 August - the date in 1945 when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces and World War Two ended.
