The award, which was achieved with distinction, recognised the students’ amazing work in making their school more environmentally friendly and raising eco-awareness in the school community throughout the past year.

Pupils earned the recognition by collaborating with the school’s eco-coordinator to conduct an environmental review, assessing how eco-friendly Kingsham Primary School is. They reviewed everything from the school’s recycling practices, to energy usage, to looking at healthy living through their home grown produce in the highly successful allotment.

Recycling efforts have been extended by the school joining Terracycle's Pringles and Paldis Biscuits and Snacks programmes as a public drop off point in an attempt to avert as much waste from landfill as possible.

It has also had continued success with its allotment, where pupils are regularly outside planting, nurturing and harvesting the produce, which they have had the opportunity to sell to the school community and cook themselves.

Year five and six classes even set up their own pop-up restaurant using some of the produce to serve dishes to parents and carers.

Most recently, Kingsham has received a five-star gardening award through the RHS Campaign for School Gardening for all their achievements and high standards of maintaining the allotment and areas of the school environment.

In addition, this academic year, the school was fortunate enough to be successful in their application for the Chichester District Council free tree scheme and held a planting day with its pupils.
