Local charity celebrates real event in Hastings Old Town Carnival Week

Much of the popular Hastings Old Town week has been virtual and online but The Two Towers Trust, the local charity which raises funds to maintain the Old Town’s two mediaeval church buildings, is celebrating after holding one of the few ‘real’ events.

The charity’s events committee chair Kevin Boorman explained: “Our lunches and afternoon teas have become very popular in Old Town Carnival Week but, of course, social distancing made that very difficult this year. So we arranged to deliver afternoon teas to people’s homes across Hastings instead on Thursday afternoon!

“We couldn’t believe how popular they were, we delivered over seventy afternoon teas, which included quiche, cheese puff, crisps, a selection of sandwiches and cakes, a scone, jam and cream. This raised over £260 for our funds. And we’ve had some really good feedback from happy customers too. I’d like to thank people for their patience. We wanted the afternoon teas to be enjoyed fresh, and the sheer quantity ordered meant some were delivered later than we would have liked, but few people seemed to mind:- and all seemed to enjoy them!

“I’d really like to thank Vanessa, my wife, who did much of the cooking, ably assisted by Sandra Bentall.

“And although we raised a lot of money, and had a great response, I really hope we don’t have to do it again next year, and that we can go back to our more traditional setting of the church!”
