Lockdown heroes celebrated in Pulborough scarecrow competition

Pulborough’s annual scarecrow competition went ahead this year with a twist as it celebrated local lockdown heroes.

Despite the harvest fair not being able to take place due to the pandemic, scarecrows still popped-up at homes and on street corners around the village, with judging taking place in front gardens.

Scarecrows celebrating individuals such as the village wardens, Saagar the owner of Pulborough Stores, a friendly postman and Dr Tim from Pulborough Medical Group were entered alongside broader representations of the NHS, fire service, police and refuse collectors. Paul Latter, leader of The Pulborough Harvest Fair Organising Committee, said: “After a few requests on social media from people who miss the fair, we are very pleased we could still organise something for local families to get involved in safely. Thank you all for the great scarecrows and bringing a smile to everyone at this challenging time. It’s been a great way to celebrate the village’s lockdown heroes. We look forward to next year and the return of the Pulborough Harvest Fair!”

The Pulborough Harvest Fair is organised on behalf of the Pulborough Community Partnership and is always looking for individuals to help organise the event, those interest should get in touch on the Fair’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/PulboroughHarvestFair or email [email protected]
