Around 1,500 people responded to a poll on our Facebook page asking people’s thoughts on the current situation, which is aimed at slowing the spread of coronavirus.

It was announced on Thursday (April 16) the UK lockdown will be extended for another three weeks, until early May, when it will be reviewed again.

We asked our readers on Facebook whether the lockdown should be extended for a third time, and gave two options: it must be extended again/ the rules must be relaxed.

Ninety per cent of people who voted said the lockdown should be extended – about 1,350 people.

While just 10 per cent, around 150 people, said the rules should be relaxed.

People took to the comments to explain their opinions on the situation.

Sue Stevens said, “I would rather be in lockdown for as long as it takes and come out the other end alive. Some people aren’t taking it seriously enough.”

While Jan Woods wrote, “What’s another three weeks? Or more? It’s inconvenient for all of us, lonely too for some, but hopefully we can all come out the other side with our families waiting for us!”

Some thought the current lockdown is not strict enough and people are floating the rules.

Ed Holyoake said, “What lockdown? By looks of things there are far too many people out.”

And Rachael Hescott said, “Lockdown needs to be tightened as there are far too many people not understanding the reason for it.”
