Maria Caulfield backs Chailey repair café reopening

A volunteer-run organisation in Chailey offering a monthly repair service for residents is set to reopen this weekend following a long closure due to the pandemic.

The reopening of Chailey Repair Café on Saturday, June 12 – which will allow people to drop off their items in need of repair – is being supported by Maria Caulfield, MP for Chailey.

Mrs Caulfield said: “It is fantastic that they are able to reopen again after so long but they have not been idle during the pandemic, fixing hundreds of items such as sewing machines to help make PPE for frontline workers.”

A new partnership has also been formed between Chailey Repair Café and St Peter & St James Hospice, in which the café will be repairing items donated to the hospice charity shop which would otherwise be unsellable.

This will mean additional fund raising for the hospice and fewer items being sent to landfill.

Mrs Caulfield said: “The new partnership between Chailey Repair Café and St Peter & St James Hospice will be a wonderful opportunity for both organisations and I look forward to seeing the benefits to this for both organisations.”

Chailey Repair Café will be open on the second Saturday of every month for the rest of the year, with Saturday, June 12 being drop off only, from 10am to 1pm at St Peter’s Church, Chailey Green.
