West Langney Lake and the surrounding marshes are home to rare plants and swathes of species not found elsewhere in Eastbourne. There are even grazing water buffalo nearby which belong to the neighbouring school. It's certainly a hidden gem destination for a quiet walk amongst the delightful wildlife.

This secret garden was a delight to stumble upon when I first moved to Eastbourne. I've returned many times since then, and it's always so quiet. The most people I've ever seen there was a yoga class of four people - it isn't at all surprising that they'd choose this relaxing spot for their practice. The gardens are completely secluded thanks to vast amount of trees, which also provide some thankful shade from the 'sun-trap' garden on hot days. The wooden shelter adds a distinct appearance to the gardens and even plays host to open-air performances of Shakespeare plays.

The Enterprise Centre could be easily missed in favour of the Beacon or the high street, but it's a must-visit if you want to avoid the hustle-and-bustle and snag yourself some unique buys. The former Victorian railway building is home to stores offering eclectic wares not found on the high street. While it's smaller than other shopping centres, it boasts many wonderful independent businesses, including florists, clothing shops, barbers and lots of wonderful eateries. A bonus is that dogs are allowed inside!

Motcombe Gardens is yet another quiet green space in Eastbourne which is perfect to get away from it all. It also has a rich history, with many hints to life in the past being uncovered during several excavations of the park between 2013 and 2021.
