Haywards Heath Girl Guides have made banners using poppies made for remembrance day in celebration of VE Day. Diann Johnson, Girlguiding Perrymount District Commissioner, said: "Only three months ago Girlguiding Perrymount District girls and leaders were all looking forward to a big celebration at the Guide Hall, but here we are all staying at home! At least this VE Day banner is up and getting people talking about today. Sylvia Harris, who led the project, said: "With the help of friends we managed to get these out so they could be displayed. I think they came out really well with only a few days to organise" SUS-201105-114636001placeholder image

Residents across Mid Sussex found ways to celebrate the 75th anniversary of victory in Europe following the Second World War.

Across Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and the surrounding villages, bunting has been hung up, birthdays have been celebrated and afternoon teas have been enjoyed. There was also a flyover from a Spitfire at Dame Vera Lynn’s house. Do you have any VE Day pictures you can send us? Email us at [email protected].
