More council grants for Burgess Hill voluntary groups amid coronavirus

Burgess Hill Town Council is offering extra grants to voluntary groups in the town support them during the coronavirus pandemic.

It has set up a £6,150 Covid-19 Grants Fund with donations made by the community during the Graham Meeres live-streamed DJ set held in June, with match funding being provided by the town council and Burgess Hill District Lions Club.

A spokesman for the council said: “Following consultation with the town’s groups, the council is aware that many of them have been unable to raise any income or hold their usual fundraising activities during the Covid-19 lockdown, while still having to meet running costs or experiencing an increased demand for their services during the emergency.”

In addition, a one-off £10,000 Environmental Initiatives Fund is available this year for voluntary groups wishing to develop environmental projects.

These two new grants are in addition to the usual in-year grants the town council awards to local groups.

Minor Grants of up to £1,000 are still available, with applications needing to be submitted by August 30. And Major Grants applications for capital costs of £1,000 plus must be submitted by September 30.

The deadline for Covid-19 grants applications is July 31, and the grants will be awarded to groups in August.
