A new cafe is coming to Alexandra Park in Hastings.

The ice cream parlour and cafe will be based at the old pumping station next to Buckshole Cottages in St Helen’s Road.

The proposals put forward by R & B Property Developments Ltd, based in Sedlescombe, were given planning permission by Hastings Borough Council.

Applicants recently applied to the council to vary some of the conditions of the development, further to their original application they submitted being granted planning permission by the authority.

They applied for an increase in the size of the outside terraced seating area, amendments to the design of the access ramp, steps and barrier, changes to the layout of the windows and installation of an extract flue.

Construction work is currently under way for the new cafe and ice cream parlour.

In a report by the planning department presented to the council, it said: “The alteration to the internal layout will not have an impact on the character of the area or result in a substantial change to the original scheme. As such this element of the proposal is considered acceptable.

“It is considered that the alterations proposed in this instance are acceptable and would not have a detrimental impact on the character or significance of the historic park. The works will result in a redundant building in poor condition being bought back into use, providing a service and meeting place for those visiting the park.”
