New Hastings Morris side dance out in public for the first time this evening

Newly formed Hastings Morris side The Molly Winklers will be making their first public appearance today (Wednesday April 22) dancing outside the Old England pub in London Road, St Leonards, from 7.15pm – 9pm.

They are guests of St Leonards based Rheda’s Dream Morris and Hastings Border Morris side Ruxley’s Crew will also be performing.

The driving force behind the new Molly Winklers group is musician and artist Bev Lee Harling, known for her sell out one-woman show on the history of the local fishing community Ploughing The Salt Sea.

The new side perform a version of Molly dancing, an energetic, traditional English folk dance from the Fens of East Anglia, historically performed by agricultural workers on Plough Monday.

The Molly Winklers will also be dancing in the procession of this year’s Jack in the Green celebrations on Monday May 4.
