Nutbourne man who swam the Solent in 5°C water opens osteopathy clinic in home village
A Nutbourne man who swam the Solent in 5°C water has opened a new osteopathy clinic in his home village.
Lance Peterson, who has lived in Nutbourne all his life, graduated this summer with a Master of Osteopathy (MOst) from the European School of Osteopathy and is registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

He now runs Lance Peterson Osteopathy from a home clinic on the edge of Southbourne, offering osteopathy and sports massage.
On 16 March 2025, Lance swam from Gosport to Ryde beach in water of around 5°C. The swim took around three hours and he came out of the water with hypothermia. After warming up, he set off on a 100km run around the Isle of Wight, completing the full distance in about 12 hours. The challenge raised money for The Final Straw Foundation.

Lance's interest in osteopathy grew out of his own experience of sports injuries.
"I picked up a few injuries over the years, and seeing an osteopath was what inspired me to train as one," he said. "I wanted to understand the body and help other people stay active."
Before qualifying, Lance worked as a personal trainer and sports massage therapist, and he still swims, runs and takes on ultra-endurance events.
"Opening a clinic in the place I grew up means a lot to me," he said.

"I want to give something back to the local community, by encouraging people to get active and look after their health and fitness, and through osteopathy, helping people work towards getting back to doing the things they love."
Lance is already planning his next challenge, which he will reveal in the coming months.
