The Royal Bank of Scotland in Gildredge Road closed in early 2019 and has remained empty since.

A planning application has now been submitted to Eastbourne council to change the use of the building from mixed use to residential accommodation and convert it into 15 flats.

In a design and access statement submitted with the application, it is proposed to convert the original three terraced houses into one and two bedroom flats with a maximum of four flats on each storey.

A spokesperson for the developers said, “The proposal makes use of a current vacant building and provides much needed accommodation for Eastbourne town centre.

“The proposed one and two bedroom units will suit first time buyers and the development will contribute to the local economy with benefit to local residents generating work and a supply of housing.”
