Photos of last year’s pancake Day celebrations provide a glimpse of better days

With this year’s pancake day celebrations scuppered by the pandemic in schools all over the country, now’s as good a time as every to look back on how students at St Philip’s Catholic Primary School in Uckfield celebrated last year.

Organised by reception class teacher Mel Costen, students at the Uckfield primary school marked Shrove Tuesday last year by donning heir chefs hats, washing their hands and making their very own pancakes. But they didn’t eat them straight away. That afternoon, the pupils filed out into the windy playground to race with their frying pans and pancakes in tow.

Headteacher Joanna Sanchez enjoyed the day. She said: “The students had a fantastic time learning how to make pancakes and really enjoyed the races. It was great to see big smiles on everyone’s faces.” See all the best photos below.
