Plans for a cafe and woodland walkway at Eastbourne’s new care home

Willingdon Park Manor Care Home, which is being built on a two-acre site at Kings Drive as part of a £20 million project, has submitted plans for a cafe and walkway to Eastbourne Borough Council.

The care home, which is expected to be completed ‘by late 2021’ according to Savista Developments, will care for up to 80 residents and feature a range of facilities including an ice cream parlour, a cinema and a luxurious hairdressers and therapy room.

The site for the home also says, “The home will have an abundance of outdoor space on all floors including terraces, a summer garden bar, winter garden activity centre and half an acre of landscaped gardens with a unique woodland walkway for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

Documents say the proposed site for the woodland walkway and summerhouse/cafe is to the north of the site between the care home and the boundary with Decoy Drive.

According to the plans, the walkway aims to give residents access to this wooded area via a sloped walkway - using ramped segments to gradually descend down towards the stream while maintaining privacy for the neighbours.

Plan say there will be some enlarged elements of decking which would be used as rest points, with seating to allow residents to enjoy the seclusion created by the wooded area.

The cafe building is to provide refreshments for residents and visitors when they are outside enjoying the gardens, plans say.

Members of the public can comment until April 8.
