Plans submitted for new McDonald’s and Starbucks drive-thrus in Bexhill

Proposals for a new Starbucks coffee shop and McDonald's restaurant in Bexhill have been unveiled.

Stroud Holdings Ltd submitted the plans to Rother District Council.

They include proposals for the new drive-thru restaurant and coffee shop, an EV charging station and associated landscaping on land west of Glovers House, Glovers End on the outskirts of town.

A planning statement from Planning and Development Associates, on behalf of the applicant, said: “The proposed Starbucks drive-thru coffee shop will be 194sqm in size plus a bin store of 26sqm and includes both drive-thru provision and an internal area for customers to sit inside.

“The proposed Starbucks unit will be single-storey and include a counter/server area, a dedicated drive-thru customer hatch, customer WCs and back-of-house/storage. A typical Starbucks drive-thru can generate up to 20–25 full/part-time jobs once operational.

“In respect of vehicular parking, a total of 21 spaces including 18 standard spaces, two disabled spaces and one order waiting space are proposed.

“The proposed Starbucks drive-thru coffee shop will have a dedicated access connecting directly to Glovers End. Preferred minimum opening hours are 6am to 11pm.

“The proposed restaurant drive-thru comprises a modern freestanding single-storey McDonald’s restaurant with a drive-thru, car parking, landscaping and associated works, including customer order displays. Provision is made for takeaway customers, both from the counter and from the drive-thru lane.

“The proposed restaurant will be 380sqm in size plus a 70sqm bin store. The customer seating area comprises 79 covers for visitors to eat their meals within a relaxed modern environment. The dining area will include a variety of seating types and table sizes tailored to the customers' needs.

“The site also includes an outdoor patio dining area and a children’s play space.

“The proposal represents a multi-million-pound investment by a national operator in Rother district, and the restaurant is expected to employ more than 120 full- and part-time staff, which McDonald’s seeks to recruit from the local area.

“The proposed drive-thru uses would provide local employment and benefit both the surrounding new employment areas and local residents, bringing economic benefits to the town.”
