A spokesperson for the group, No to WivelsTown said: "Following 200 objections and convincing arguments against the proposal, the application was deferred by Lewes District Council's planning committee. Developers Greenrock have recently resubmitted new documentation but with only minor amendments which fail to address the issues raised by objectors and the committee."
The objections focus on the houses potentially harming heritage assets, being out of scale and unsustainable with poor services, transportation and an out of date traffic survey. They would also be out of keeping with the village character.
On social media, Rosalyn Hurst adds the fears of additional traffic, no secondary school, no work, poor public transport, no shops so dependent on deliveries. Marie Tether-Jenkins says the only difference she can see is a slightly wider path. She said she has complained to the council about this and told them she expects the previous objections to still stand adding: "It's a joke."
Uckfield and East Grinstead MP Mims Davies has also commented. She cited drainage, sewage, traffic, infrastructure, heritage and environmental harm as objections to the scheme, noting the absence of a functional Local Plan. She also felt the scheme would undermine the character of Wivelsfield Green and its precious qualities.
Agents Parker Dann, acting on behalf of Greenrock Land and Property, describe the development as a mix of affordable housing, starter and family homes. They would be designed to complement local character, be constructed of traditional materials and be integrated into the local landscape. They would also be energy efficient, using ground source heat pumps.
