Readers react to new cycle lane in Chichester

The temporary cycle-way, which will link Spitalfield Lane to the railway station, has been set up with 'traffic wands' appearing to separate the road from the cycle path.

New cycle path begins to take shape in Chichester city centreMark Stevens said: "While I agree in principle with it, is it wise to restrict a road which serves the hospital? Delayed ambulances and if you are unwell you are not going to be cycling anyway."

Stu Medlycott said: "All because someone in the council felt Northgate was a 'dangerous' road. Utter rubbish. It’s road users not heeding the Highway Code or paying attention that’s the issue.

"As a resident of Chichester who regularly uses both two and four wheels on those roads I’ve never had any issues. This scheme will create more issues and congestion."

Stuart Millington said: "Brilliant! No sod uses the cycle lane that’s already in place round the Northgate Gyratory, so let’s add another and cause heavy traffic through the city again. Genius!"

Suzanne Bunce said: "Just saying, I don't think it is fully open yet, hence no one on it. Let's give it a chance, far too much traffic on the road again."

James Waghorn said: "The biggest waste of time and money. great way to make our traffic situation even worse. Ridiculous!"
