The first phase of works on Livingstone Road off New Street officially started on site this month, thanks to a partnership between Horsham District Council and housing association, Saxon Weald.

Page Court, an outdated retirement scheme, will be replaced with 40, one and two-bedroom flats for affordable rent (including two wheelchair designed homes) and eight, two and three-bedroom houses for social rent, Saxon Weald said. Phase two, which will include the demolition of three bungalows on Park Terrace East, is due to commence in January 2021.

Councillor Tricia Youtan, Cabinet Member for Community and Wellbeing, said: “I am really excited that Horsham District Council has been able to work in partnership with Saxon Weald on a number of their development sites. This site particularly will be a fantastic addition to provide safe and secure homes for our districts residents with the additional benefit of adapted homes and properties at a social rent.”

Steven Dennis, Saxon Weald’s Chief Executive, added: “The Coronavirus situation has highlighted the importance, now more than ever, of having a safe and secure place to call home. Helping people in housing need is at the heart of what we do, so I’m delighted that Saxon Weald is working with Horsham District Council once again to support those most in need.”

The properties are expected to be complete by April 2022 and will be one of four brand new developments from the partnership, providing a total of 84 much needed affordable new homes in the Horsham area.
