The tourist attraction was badly damaged in February due to recent storms and had to be shut off from the public.

But Seaford Town Council said this week it was pleased to announce that it has agreed to jointly fund, with Lewes District Council and the Environment Agency, repair work to the ‘much-loved and iconic seafront feature’.

Work has commenced and it is hoped that it should be completed by end of October – it will however be weather and tide dependent,” said a spokesman.

“The works will require plant and machinery on the promenade so for the interest of public safety, and to ensure that the works can be completed as quickly as possible, we ask that people stay away from plant and machinery.

“The work is being undertaken by CJ Thornes on weekdays, between 7am and 7pm.”

The town council said a Covid-19 focussed risk assessment has been carried out, which can be found on its website and all necessary environmental consents have been obtained.

A spokesman added: “Members of the public will be kept up to date as the project progresses and on when Splash Point will be fit to reopen.”
