Revved Up: Hundreds pack The Polegrove for Bexhill 100 spectacular

The annual Bexhill 100 Classic and Custom Car Show took place on Monday, August 31, and attracted hundreds of enthusiastic visitors.

Set against the backdrop of The Polegrove, the event showcased an impressive collection of colourful vehicles, each with its own unique story to tell. Now in its 21st year, the show is one of the largest motoring events in Sussex, raising over £200,000 for charity since it began in 2005.

Stuart James, chairman of Bexhill 100 Motoring Club, said: "This is my first year as chairperson. I start with a big thank you to the former chairman, Chris Speck, who has done a fantastic job for the club over many years.

"The primary purposes of the show are to bring an eclectic mix of classic cars, commercial vehicles and motorbikes from many countries, and to raise money for local charities. It's a great day out for all the family with some amazing classic cars. Once again, our major sponsor is Trenchline Utilities. We thank them and our other sponsors and supporters."

Jeff Webb, club secretary and joint show organiser, added: "The cars pay for putting the show on, but every member of the public that comes through the gate and pays their five pounds, the whole lot goes to four local charities. This year it's Bexhill Community Bus, Glyne Gap Special School, Barby Keel Animal Sanctuary and the Bexhill branch of the Guide Dogs Association. The money that we take through the gate is then split equally.

"A lot of the visitors here are not Bexhillians, but a lot are. You'll find that all the green ticket cars are all Bexhill 100 members. Most of them live in and around East Sussex, so they don't travel too far. A lot of the entrants, though, come down from Kent and places like that because of the reputation that the show has actually gained over the years.

"I would like to thank all of the traders who book in every year and come along, all of the charities that come along as well, and mostly the people that come along and exhibit their cars."

Councillor Memish Huseyin, the Mayor of Bexhill, was also present. He said: "What a fantastic day in Bexhill celebrating the incredible Bexhill 100! It was a real pleasure and privilege to attend such an iconic event in our town and to see so many people coming together to enjoy everything the day had to offer.

"I was so impressed by the fantastic variety of stalls, organisations and food vendors, and it was wonderful to stop and speak with so many of them. Seeing families, couples and friends wandering around, admiring the amazing collection of cars and trucks and simply enjoying the atmosphere was another brilliant example of Bexhill at its very best."

Luke Smith, a Formula 1 journalist and author who lives in the town, opened the show, while veteran radio broadcaster Alex Lester, known as 'The Dark Lord,' presented the trophy for best car.
