South East Water: Burst water main in Polegate

South East Water will provide affected customers with bottled water after confirming a burst water main in Polegate.

Social media footage appeared to show a significant amount of water spilling through the pavement and onto the road in Park Croft.

The road is home to the Grade II listed building the Polegate Windmill, built in 1817.

South East Water’s Distribution Manager, Ben Hewes, said: "We are aware of a burst water main on Park Croft, Polegate and our technician has attended the site today (Wednesday, 22 July) to reduce the flow before repairs can be carried out.

“This will help to maintain sufficient water pressure for 35 nearby customers until the work can be completed.

“We have arranged for bottled water to be delivered to the area for customers, while repair work is carried out.

“Our contractor Clancy will attend today to carry out the necessary repairs and at the same time, complete work to repair a small leak in the road, which had originally been planned for tomorrow (Thursday).

“We are sorry to our customers in Park Croft for the disruption caused and thank those who reported the issues to us."
