Southwater Welcome Club will be among other community groups which will benefit from a two per cent donation every time a Co-op member, who registers a recipient, buys selected Co-op branded products and services.

Last year more than £4,000 was given to the club thanks to the community fund.

Kris Massie, secretary of the club, said: “Whilst we are sadly unable to have meetings regular contact is kept with members by telephone or a chance masked meeting for those able to get out and about. We had a wonderful calendar for this our 60th anniversary year, which alas was thwarted by the pandemic.

“We all miss meeting up, for many this also allows those members living alone to enjoy the company of fellow members at our bi-weekly meetings.

“Any funds raised will hopefully enable us to resume activities next year which incorporate speakers, musicians and outings, not to forget birthdays (with cake!!) so looked forward to. We live in hope!”
