Camber Sands is a three mile stretch of golden sand and rolling dunes. It is the only sand dune system in East Sussex. The protected dunes are home to more than species of plants and animals.
In their study, Millets looked at factors such as weather, social media popularity and available amenities.
Social media popularity was measured using Instagram and TikTok hashtag counts. Average daily sunshine hours were collected for the nearest available town or city to each picnic spot using https://weather-and-climate.com/.
Data was collected for June, July and August, then averaged to create one summer sunshine figure for each location. Public toilet availability was also a factor in the survey.
Camber Sands came in at tenth spot with Liverpool’s Sefton Park taking top spot.
Calum Jones, author and outdoor enthusiast at Millets, said: “One of the most important things about having a picnic is to ensure that you leave the area in the same condition that you found it. Most parks will have selected areas to dispose of rubbish, but if there are no bins nearby, taking your rubbish with you and disposing of it at home can stop animals from being hurt or beauty spots from being filled with litter.
“It is also extremely important not to use disposable barbecues. Whilst available in many supermarkets, they can be dangerous and can cost you hundreds in fines. Hundreds of accidental fires are caused every year, with many people calling for a complete ban. Local authorities have introduced public space protection orders on parks and beaches, and breaking these can lead to fines of up to £5,000.
“If you plan to be outdoors for an extended period of time, ensure that you have packed enough water to keep hydrated, and pack layers of clothing that can be added or removed depending on how the weather changes throughout the day.”
