Sussex man wins £10,000 a month lottery prize after celebrating 60th birthday

A lucky man from Sussex has scooped up £10,000 a month for a year on the National Lottery’s Set For Life game, after buying three lucky dips on his way home from work and matching five numbers.

Upon realising that he had won on July 17, 2025, the recently turned 60-year-old from Brighton said he and his wife were “in tears”.

With the prize money, he plans to save for an earlier retirement.

He said: "I thought it would never happen to me. Both my wife and I were in tears. We are so very happy – it still doesn't feel real.”

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of the National Lottery, said: “What a wonderful moment this is for our winner.

“We know how much it means to Set For Life winners to receive a huge £10,000 each month.

“We sincerely hope that they relish this moment and enjoy the financial freedom this brings – huge congratulations.”

Playing any National Lottery game is more than just a chance to win; it’s a way to contribute to something much bigger.

Each week, players help generate around £32m for National Lottery-funded projects. With over £52bn raised for good causes since launch, this funds hundreds of projects in every postcode area across the UK.

Players can buy and check their tickets online by downloading the National Lottery app or at national-lottery.co.uk.

Players can also buy and check tickets in retail. Playing online via the app or website means that your ticket is checked, and you get an email notification if you win a prize.

You can also scan your retail tickets on the National Lottery app to check if you're a winner.
