It features a greedy heron whose eyes were bigger than his belly, whose problem was solved with a little help from his friends.
Gerry Bennett penned the captions as well as taking the pictures. “This was a really amazing experience to witness so close up,” he said.
“I’ve seen herons struggle with eels, and get in a real tangle, and also despatch small finger size fish but I sense this was a young heron who is still learning his trade - and I plus numerous others were there to witness it on a stunning, sunny, Sunday tea-time.”
Thank you Gerry!

7. The only solution seems to be ‘Call a Friend’. I’ll ‘cough‘ up the fish on the bank and let my scavenger pals have a go at it. Final answer. SUS-200916-104154001

8. Here come the gulls, an adult plus juvenile apprentice in tow. They won’t be able to swallow it, but hopefully may be able to put some deep cuts into it. Our heron let’s them get on with it for 10 minutes or so. This process was repeated several times, with the heron gate-crashing the process to carry out an assessment. SUS-200916-104204001
