This is why the St George's Day Act of Remembrance at Chichester Cathedral marked a significant anniversary

The Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex Lady Emma Barnard and the High Sheriff Gary Shipton were among guests attending The Royal Sussex Regimental Association St George’s Day Act of Remembrance at Chichester Cathedral.

The service on April 23 marked the 60th anniversary of the amalgamation into The Queen’s Regiment.

Held in the Cathedral, the seating was rotated 90 degrees so that those attending faced the historic St George’s Chapel – the first of two chantry chapels which were added to the south side of the Cathedral in the thirteenth century.

The service was conducted by The Rev Canon Vanessa Baron and it concluded with the National Anthem and a singing of Sussex By The Sea.

The aim of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association is to maintain the highest ‘esprit de corps’ among the retired members of the Regiment, and all Branch members by promoting reunions, social occasions, parades, ceremonies and battlefield tours connected with the activities of the Royal Sussex Regiment. This is achieved in conjunction with, and the support of, the branches of the association throughout the county.

The association exists to promote the heritage of The Royal Sussex Regiment within the county community, and to foster comradeship and to safeguard the welfare of members of the association and the welfare of former members of the Regiment and their immediate dependants.
