Tribute paid to Hastings student, 11, who died after collision near Bexhill

A school has paid tribute to a student who died following a collision near Bexhill.

Sussex Police confirmed that Harry Dennis, 11, who attended The Hastings Academy, died as a result of the injuries he suffered in a collision in Hooe last Thursday (December 15).

Officers were called to the the scene on the B2095 at about 3.05pm following a collision between a car and a flatbed van.

The ambulance service attended and Harry was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died as a result of his injuries on Saturday (December 17), police said.

In a statement on its website, The Hastings Academy said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Harry Dennis. Harry was popular and loved by all his peers, teachers and pastoral staff. He will be deeply missed by all in our academy community. This news will have a large impact on everyone at the academy and we are ensuring support in school is available for anyone who needs it. Our thoughts are with Harry’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Police said a 33-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested at the time of the incident, prior to Harry’s death, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains under investigation for offences, police added.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident.
