Melissa French snapped the spooky sight at around 8.45pm yesterday (August 30) above her home in Cumberland Road, Sidley.
She said: "I was looking out of the window at the moon with my grandson, that’s when I noticed it.
"I wasn’t sure what to make of it to be honest as it looked peculiar; the shape of it made me think of a UFO, so I took a photo of it and posted it on Facebook.
"It seemed I wasn’t the only one who saw it."
She added: "Everyone that commented was mystified by it."
Thankfully, it seems no-one was in for a probing.
Melissa's friend suggested it was a fallstreak hole: a weather phenomenon created by ice crystals forming in a patch of certain types of cloud.
It seems our skies are safe from extraterrestrial visitors: for now...
