Julia Olden, who set up the petition, said she, along with other parents, have faced ‘many months of frustration’ due to the site being closed since the current lockdown started after Christmas.

She said, “As a mother of three small children, without having a local outlet for them to let off steam and a safe area for them to play without the concerns of passing traffic on the roads, I feel like we are being unduly punished by a very select group of people, who have taken the decision to go above government guidelines and penalise all parents with small children in the local area.”

Julia said there is ‘little evidence’ that these kind of outdoor sites cause a spike in Covid infections so the closure is a ‘completely misguided approach’.

She said, “Local families are also travelling to other local villages and towns to use their play parks, thus undermining the stay near your home order.

“Parks and outdoor play area are essential for mental health for children and together with the already strained homeschooling experience - having no park to let off steam, our children are suffering. It just seems so unfair.”
