Westlake House Care Home celebrates the life of much loved resident Tony Snelling

The team and residents at Barchester’s Westlake House Care Home in Horsham have been celebrating the life of one of their much-loved residents, Cornelius ‘Tony’ Snelling, who sadly passed away on the 16th of December.

Tony came to live at Westlake House in January 2022 and soon became a much loved member of the Westlake House community. Westlake House were honoured to celebrate his 100th birthday with him on the 1st of April 2023 and celebrated his birthday in style with his family and friends.

Tony was not only a lovely gentleman, he was a hero who served his country in the Royal Navy and was part of the D Day landings. Tony earned a number of accolades in his career as service men.

Tony attended the AFVBC Crawley & Horsham Veterans breakfast club, hosted at Westlake House on a Thursday morning.

For Armistice Day last year AFVBC Crawley & Horsham blessing of the standard service took place at Westlake House. The service was a remarkable event and was attended by local dignitaries and members of the local community.

Tony took part in the ceremony and presented the standard along with Dr David Skipp, Chairman of the Horsham District Council, to Rev Richard Caldecott of St. Mark's Church, Horsham who performed the blessing ceremony.

General Manager of Westlake House Care Home, Audrey Chiduku, said: “Tony was loved by everyone at Westlake House and always had a smile on his face.

"Tony was a great inspiration to us all and we will miss him dearly.”
