Following the opening of the consultation period into the next stage of work in Norwich Road, Southern Water will be holding a drop-in event at the Chichester Baptist Church between 4pm and 8pm today (Thursday).

A spokesman said: “We will run through the work we’re carrying out between now and when the project is scheduled for completion in autumn 2022.

“The new pipeline, which received planning permission in 2018, will be essential in catering for the housing planned for this area.”

Completion of constructing the new wastewater pipeline is scheduled for August 2021, but the whole project is scheduled to finish in autumn 2022.

In a letter to residents and businesses affected by the works, project manager Nigel Hawken wrote: “We’ve started work on the section of sewer connecting to Tangmere Wastewater Treatment work, heading towards Westhampnett, and we are making good progress with the construction.

“We’ll be starting work in Norwich Road in April and one of our first activities will be to set up a site compound from week commencing March 2.

“The compound will be an area of land at the junction with Sherborne Road and St Paul’s Road and you may notice some additional activity and vehicle movements in the area.

“To ensure the safety of our workforce, pedestrians and other road users, we will have to use two-way traffic lights due to the width of the roads we are working in. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained at all times.”
