At the Annual Parish Meeting held on Tuesday April 17 the items raised in Public Time included the following:Speeding – the PCSO suggested that Pett should join together with another village, spend £2000 on a speed gun and get volunteers to operate it.Public toilets at Pett Level.

Don’ forget that the Friends of Pett Level Preservation Trust are holding their AGM on Friday April 27 at Winchelsea Beach Village Hall at 7:30pm and not 7pm as previously reported! The speaker will be Ken Brooks, the local well-known expert on the archeology of the beach and cliffs at Pett Level.

Church Services on Sunday April 29 – United Benefice Communion, St Andrew’s, Fairlight at 10:30am; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

The Village Choir will meet again on Monday April 30 at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

POPP on Tuesday May 1 will feature a 1950’s Reminiscence/Recall with Keith Osborne. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

On Wednesday May 2 Sally and her team will be ready to welcome you with excellent coffee and a great selection of cakes at the Village Coffee Morning. Everyone is welcome from 10am.

Also on May 2 the Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

On Thursday April 5 Flicks in the Village will be showing The Iron Lady (12). Phyllida Lloyd, who directed Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia!, takes a less exuberant tack in this unexpectedly poignant biopic. The film depicts the elderly Dame Thatcher (Streep in a thoroughly convincing performance) as a frail figure replaying key moments in her life while her mind still continues to function. Her trajectory begins with grocer Alfred Roberts, who became the mayor of Grantham, instilling in his daughter, Margaret (Alexandra Roach), a passion for politics. After graduating from Oxford, she felt ready to enter the fray, at which point she met Denis Thatcher (Harry Lloyd), who cheered her along on the road from Parliament to 10 Downing Street, where they lived during her time as Britain’s first female prime minister (Jim Broadbent portrays the grey-haired and ghostly Denis). The film depicts key moments in her time as Prime Minister.

The film starts at 7:30pm with refreshments served from 7pm. Membership forms are available on the night or you can always pop into the Butchers shop in Pett and grab an application form. On Saturday May 5 POPP will be having its fund raising Open Day at Pett Village Hall. Attractions will include tombola, kurling, Lucky Dip and face painting as well as a variety of tables selling produce, cakes and arts and crafts. In addition there will be a coconut shy, a White Elephant stall and a raffle. There will be a special guest visit from Amber Rudd MP and the event will run from 10am to 5pm.

Tickets for the Pett Big Lunch and Regal Feast of Puddings, which are being held in Pett Village Hall on Sunday June 3, from 12 noon till 2pm are selling fast. The event, which is jointly organised by Pett WI and Pett Parish Church promises to be a fun-filled couple of hours with a buffet lunch and a glass of bubbly for the Loyal Toast as well as the Best Crown competition, live music, nostalgia and fun! There will also be a free Jubilee mug for every child attending. Tickets are just 60/- (that’s £3 in today’s money!) with no charge for children under 14 when accompanied by an adult. You can buy tickets from Phil the Butcher or Pett Post Office but you will need to do it soon!
