Sussex Police were first contacted on Wednesday evening with reports that travellers had moved into the car park on Banjo Road, near Littlehampton’s seafront.

Speaking on Friday, a spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said: “There are 27 caravans in the car park.

“They arrived yesterday after being evicted from a car park in Shoreham . We will be attending court on Wednesday to obtain an order to remove them from the site.”

A police spokesperson said on Friday that no criminal damage or other crimes had been reported on the site.
