HURRICANE ANGUS: Saturday 2am 19/11/2016 blew in Angus, little brother of the October 1987 hurricane. The house virtually shook in protest, water poured in through a roof, repaired only two years ago, having a worthless 10 year guarantee from a now defunct company. The wind tore the felt off another area of roof leaving a large hole and a terracotta finial crashed through the solar panels and broke tiles in various places en route. Luckily we have a large number of buckets to catch whatever comes through the now porous roof. We are fortunate also, in that none of our trees, of those which survived the previous hurricane, came down this time. The pigs and sheep were not very happy as they had to wait impatiently tapping their toes until mid-morning to be fed. Normally their daily feed arrives at 7am and 3pm promptly. Today however, it was too dangerous early on. Not only was it impossible to stand up, but one took one's life in one's hands avoiding being hit by flying debris.

VILLAGE HALL EVENTS: Last week’s quiz for charity was a success fielding six teams, ably run by quizmaster Bill, fundraiser Debbie, caterer Melanie and barman Dave. Funds raised were £220 before expenses and this was matched pound for pound by Barclays Bank.

Next Film Night will be on November 25 (today). The film is Love and Friendship based on a novella by Jane Austen called Lady Susan. Cast includes Stephen Fry and Kate Beckinsale. Doors open at 7pm for 7.45pm start. Entrance £3 which includes tea or coffee and wine can be purchased via donations to the Village Hal Funds.

CAR PARKING: Many people are complaining regarding the size of individual parking spaces. I have myself had three instances of parking in supermarket parking lots and returning to my car with my shopping to find someone unknown has damaged my car. In one instant, the damage to the front was so excessive that the car had to go away for the front to be rebuilt. My insurance company then had the affrontery, (presumably by noting that I was a senor citizen) to send me a leaflet on becoming a more careful driver. This despite informing them, on each occasion, that I was nowhere near the car at the time. I have never been involved in any accident of my own making, and have an exemplary safe driving record, but ageism continues to persist. Talking to others it appears that car park damage is becoming more and more usual.
